Located in the northwest corner of Dallas County, Coppell, Texas is one of Dallas’ many suburbs. Settled by German and French immigrants in the 1840s, Coppell was originally called “Gibbs Station,” after Barnett Gibbs – one of Texas’ first lieutenant governors. In 1892, the town was renamed to Coppell, after George Coppell, a wealthy financier from Britain who made his way to the U.S. in the 1880s and played a significant role in the completion of the local railroad line.
The community of Coppell was officially incorporated in 1955 but didn’t really see its population explode until after 1974, following the opening of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. By the 1980s and 1990s, Coppell had completely transformed itself from sleepy little farm town into a large, predominantly wealthy suburban community.
