Duncanville, Texas is a city in Dallas County. The area surrounding Duncanville was originally settled back in 1845, following the arrival of Crawford Trees from Illinois, who purchased thousands of acres south of the Camp Dallas area. By 1880, the Chicago, Texas and Mexican Central Railway had reached the area and built the community of Duncan Switch, named for a line foreman there. Two years later, Duncan Switch was renamed Duncanville by the town’s first postmaster, Charles P. Nance.
Duncanville was incorporated into a city on the 2nd of August, 1947 at which time the military repurposed the old World War II landing field established by the Army Air Corps into the Duncanville Air Force Station, headquarters for the 4 Nike-Hercules missile launch sites that were protecting the Dallas/Fort Worth area from Soviet bomber attacks. While the Duncanville Air Force Station was eventually closed and the buildings dismantled, a monument was erected to honor the facility’s history.
