Pantego, Texas is a town found in Tarrant County in the middle of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It is believed that members of the famed De Soto Expedition, led by Luis de Moscoso, were the first Europeans to set foot in the area when they made their way through Texas in 1542. Official settlement in the area didn’t occur until the early 1840s, where prominent settlers included Colonel Middleton Tate Johnson and Colonel Frederick Forney Foscue. According to legend, Colonel Foscue had a Native American friend and ally by the name of Pantego, who was later killed. Before becoming the name of the town, Foscue named a local school after his friend, Pantego built on Foscue’s donated land in 1883. Pantego was incorporated twice, first in 1949. After the town was dissolved in 1952, it was reincorporated later that same year.
